ME & MY WHY
Welcome to my corner of the internet! I'm Michelle Jensen, a devoted mother to four wonderful boys, each with their own unique personalities and needs. My journey as a parent took an unexpected turn with the birth of my eldest, who was diagnosed with a rare chromosomal disorder at just 15 months old. From that moment on, advocating for him became not just a choice, but a necessity.
For over two decades, I've proudly served as a primary school teacher, honing my skills and witnessing first-hand the transformative power of education. But it was through my son's journey that I truly became acquainted with the complexities of advocacy, especially within educational settings. Week after week, I stand by my son's side, attending therapies, navigating medical appointments and tirelessly advocating for his right to a quality education.
My experiences as both a mother and an educator have afforded me a profound understanding of what true inclusivity means, particularly in the context of mainstream education. I've seen the difference it can make in a child's life, fostering a sense of belonging and unlocking their full potential.
However, despite my expertise and unwavering dedication, I've encountered numerous obstacles when trying to collaborate with educational institutions. Too often, I've found myself battling bureaucracy and facing resistance in my pursuit of what's best for my child and his class and teacher.
This website is more than just a platform—it's a testament to my commitment to change. I aim to share my insights, experiences and resources with fellow parents, educators, and advocates alike. Together, we can work towards creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for all children, regardless of their abilities.
Join me as I navigate the highs and lows of parenting, education and advocacy. Together, we can make a difference—one small step at a time. Thank you for joining me on this journey.
